The Bangladesh national football team is scheduled to return to Dhaka today at 3:00 pm after being stranded in Nepal due to political unrest. A Bangladesh Air Force aircraft, which departed Dhaka at 11:53 am, is transporting the team.
The team was originally scheduled to return on Wednesday, but their final friendly match against Nepal was canceled following violence on Monday that resulted in at least 19 deaths and the resignation of the country’s Prime Minister. The Bangladesh Football Federation had managed to reschedule the flight from Wednesday to Tuesday, but all flights were subsequently canceled by the airport authority due to escalating protests and instability.
The players and officials were forced to remain in a hotel in Kathmandu but are now safe and sound at the airport, ready to return home.
