DMCH to resume bone marrow transplants in weeks after BMT unit reopens

Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) is set to resume its Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) services within the next few weeks, following the reopening of its upgraded BMT unit. The revamped facility is designed to offer low-cost transplant procedures. According to the head of the BMT unit, the cost for an autologous transplantation may range between Tk 5 lakh and Tk 7 lakh, while an allogeneic transplantation is estimated to cost around Tk 15 lakh, which is significantly lower than the expense at private hospitals or abroad. The upgraded unit has the capacity to perform 50 to 60 transplants annually.
