Israel detains Conscience ship captain Madeleine for not signing bond

Madeleine Habib, the captain of the ship Conscience, remains detained by Israeli forces in Israel’s Ketziyet prison for an “indefinite” period after she refused to sign a bond. The Conscience was the largest ship in the ‘Freedom Flotilla Coalition,’ which was attempting to break the Israeli blockade of Gaza. Photographer Shahidul Alam was also aboard the ship but has since been released from Israel, arriving in Bangladesh via Türkiye early Saturday morning. Concerns about Captain Habib’s detention have been raised by an Australian Senator, but the country’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) cited confidentiality when declining to provide information about her.
