No refund for notes bearing religious or political slogans: Bangladesh Bank

The Bangladesh Bank (BB) has introduced the Bangladesh Bank Note Refund Regulations, 2025, which updates its policy on refunding damaged banknotes. Under the new regulations, the central bank will not provide a refund for any banknote that bears religiously provocative or political slogans or ideologies. The refusal also applies to notes containing promotional writings for any individual or product. The updated rules, which repeal the 2012 regulations, also specify criteria for burnt or fragmented notes to be eligible for a refund, such as maintaining at least 51 percent of the note’s area in a single piece, or 60 percent of the note’s area with intact serial numbers on both ends for fragmented notes.
