DHAKA – In a recent address at an event organized by the Dhaka University Film Society, filmmaker Nuhash Humayun expressed his strong desire for his films to achieve international acclaim. The young director, who has carved a niche for himself in the horror genre, believes his work has value beyond the local market.
According to The Daily Star, Nuhash shared a transformative experience at the Busan International Film Festival with his film “Iti, Tomari Dhaka,” where he realized that global audiences could connect with his work. This experience, he noted, gave him the confidence to pursue international recognition for his subsequent projects.
He also contrasted the ease of becoming famous in Dhaka with the challenge of building an international reputation, a challenge that he finds more attractive. Nuhash’s films have been screened at several international festivals and have received appreciation from global viewers.
His previous work, including the short film “Moshari,” has already gained international traction, becoming the first Bangladeshi film to win a Grand Jury Award at the SXSW Film Festival’s Midnight Shorts category and an Academy Award-qualifying award at the Atlanta Film Festival.
