We want to show what the rule of law is in this election: CEC

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) A M M Nasir Uddin announced the Election Commission’s intent to “show what the rule of law is” during the upcoming 13th National Parliament election. Speaking at a workshop for polling officials in Chittagong on October 11, 2025, the CEC stated that presiding officers are legally vested with “all the power” and must remember they are the “Chief Election Commissioner” on election day. He explicitly instructed them to use their full authority, including the power to close the polling station or even cancel the entire parliamentary seat if there is any disturbance, warning that failure to use this power or take “appropriate action in time” will be considered a crime. He also noted that the “security challenge” for voting is a major obstacle facing the election, and stressed that the national election is a shared “national responsibility” requiring coordination from all officials, the administration, and police.
